winners...and jackets...

so since the jacket season hit, i've been at 4 winners. the first winners, i found a steve madden black wool jacket that was so cute but large. so off to other winners i went. to no avail. steve madden in any size smaller than large was just no where. i tried on maybe...40 jackets. no exaggeration. some twice because i'd forgotten i'd already tried a particular one on. the problem with winter jackets is you just can't anticipate the layers you'll be wearing under themon some january day. do you get the size that "fits" or the size that fits with a bulky sweater underneath? either way, a large wasn't cutting it.

winners workers must DREAD jacket season. jackets lend themselves to trying on in aisles. if one tries on 40 jackets, it's tempting to not re-hang but drape the jacket over the rack. and many, many people have given in to this temptation...

i just want you to know that if you only shop in white rock winners...it is THE WORST winners i have ever been in. it's the messiest. nothing is in the right spot. things are on the wrong size hanger so when you spot the tan little small sign around the hanger and run towards your long-searched for jacket with open arms only to find an XL! it brings shouts anger at strangers. look out. so fyi...shop the abbotsford winners...it's practically a regular store with all the sizes of one particular shirt on one rack sometimes.

and today at the abby winners, i searched for my steve madden jacket but it was not found. i gave up looking because everything is so neat there, there's really no digging required. off i went to the boot section, picked up some pumas, wandered around in clearance, spent some time in the dressing rooms and as i was walking towards the check-out...i spotted a few lone jackets on a rack in the petite section. i paused. and then i dug down to the black one at the very back...i recognized the buttons! i saw the steve madden tag! IT WAS A MEDIUM! i put it on - love it.

BUT then...i recognized the classic impulsivness of my buy. so i found a big, fat sweater, put it on, and THEN tried on the jacket. yep...it works. and i ran to the cashier. i couldn't contain my excitement so i told her the story. she smiled politely. i wanted to wear it out of the store...but it was 24 C out today - it couldn't be justified.

(umm...you're maybe wishing to see a pic but i'm alone at home with no one to take my picture...hold that thought.)

give me 5 days...it'll probably get returned. haha.

I'm glad you've clarified that the WR winners is the worst - I always feel that way when I go in there, but am not around enough to really know one way or the other. Have you thought about sending Winners an email about your concerns?

You're so right. I went in Winners just the other day to take a peak and look around, and it is chaotic in there! Crazy! I opened a book to look at it and a piece of glass fell out, landed on the floor, and shattered! I was so embarrassed as on of the employees ran over and started to sweep it up. How humiliating (I always look at the people who drop things in stores and think "I'm so glad I'm not that poor sap"!) I don't think I'll go back to Winners for a while! Only 3 days left of your cleanse, right? And only 9 days left until our wedding! WOW!

Let me add my 2cents to the condition of the WR store.. if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I might not have believed it.. I went there last night to look for a pair of shoes. There was hardly a matching pair to be found. There were literally piles and piles of onsies on a big rolling rack and piles of boots and shoes and every size and shape on the floor. There was this one young guy picking them up and sorting. I found ONE shoe of the exact kind I wanted to buy.. do you think the other one could be located? I managed to match two other pairs of similiar style, but they were too big. He thought I should come and work there. He said that he had cleaned and sorted the entire area the night before and that this mess was made in one day.. He found single shoes throughout the store.. men's department, housewares.. they just get kicked or dropped. He said he would look for the matching pair for me throughout the night as he was sorting.. it was quite a pathetic state... I'm taking bets on whether I get the matching shoe?

The one shoe is "on hold" and I keep calling down there to see if the lost has been found... no luck yet!

i went to that winners once in white rock and it was disgusting. glad you're letting us all in on the secret, but sad b/c with the high volume of readers of this blog, you might be ruining your secret shopping spot!

glad to put a smile on your face, hanners... and yes, I put the shoe on hold and kept calling to see if the other shoe had been found..

Here's the end of the story: I went to the Langley Winners.. could I possibly find the same shoes? Guess what? There was ONE exact shoe on the 6 1/2 shelf! ONE!! I couldn't believe it was happening. I wondered if the two stores would sell one shoe each, but then I couldn't remember which foot was on hold in WR. :)

So Bec & I scoured the shelves.. with no luck. Being the determined person I am, I kept searching, and finally spotted a lone shoe on the floor 2 aisles over -- the very shoe I wanted in the very size I needed..

So all of you that are coming to Matt's wedding next Saturday... take special note of the shoes I'm wearing.. It took some great persistence on my part to get them.

And after all that, I'm not sure they are very comfortable!
But they look great :)

ah, Judy...a small sacrifice for looking excellent, I would say. Wish I was there to get a glimpse of these beauties in person!
