i'm to tell you - i FOUND it! and maybe you knew this a long time ago but don't write a blog for me to read and find out about it. you should start your own blog! anyways, i knew a long time ago that baking soda and vinegar clean stuff. but i had i tried it? no. i need a commercial to tell me what to use, remember? then i had a baby. i tried to keep him in his baby tub for as long as possible so that i wouldn't have to clean my tub but he just kept growing. so then i'd clean it with Vim or that powdery stuff, scrubbing my arm off but not getting it super clean. i'd pour boiling water over the whole tub afterwards to attempt to ensure no leftover chemicals. this was too much work.
last night, i'd put off cleaning to tub too long and couldn't bear to bathe ben in it again without a good scrub. i googled "vinegar and baking soda bathtub cleaner". here's what i did: poured white vinegar into a spary bottle. sprayed down the bathtub. shook baking soda all over the tub. sprayed the tub again, making the baking soda foam. left the bathroom for about 20 minutes. came back with a sponge and started scrubbing. WELL! i barely had to scrub! i was just wiping the baking soda foam around and the tub was coming clean! i was shouting in excitement (but tim couldn't hear me because he was vacuuming...) as i scrubbed. only minutes later, i washed the tub out with water and it was gleaming! tim came in to have a look and he's like, "it's never looked so shiny!"
try it. then get rid of all those expensive cleaners under your sink. amazing!

kay, have I ever blogged about how I clean the tub? Tub cleaning is my kryptonite! I usually scrub it with the powder stuff. Then I give it a good dousing with some kind of toxic bathroom spray. Then, because it still looks disgusting, I'll run the bath full and add lysol and let it sit before scrubbing one more time. I am off to try your vinegar and baking soda trick (and kicking myself for not thinking of that sooner!! Baking soda is AWESOME in the oven...)
andie - we are kindred spirits!
My Mom found a book with a whole bunch of homemade cleaners for different parts of your house. I have to remember to try some of them too.
I love baking soda and vinegar for cleaning stuff but had never tried them together in the tub. Must do that. Does it ever seem weird to you though that we use them in food?
I told my brother about this and he says he uses vinegar to clean his laminate floors too. Genius! I'm off to buy more spray bottles :)
Where was Ben while you were cleaning the tub and Tim was vacuuming?
PS - I will tell Dallas to try this, as the bathroom is his domain. What about using similar to clean the toilet? Not that the toilet gets the same kind of dirty as the tub, but you get the idea.
the same page that told me about this "recipe" said to pour vinegar in the toilets to clean them, rach. i don't know - haven't tried it.
What about for the glass shower doors???
vinegar works to clean pretty much anything. I have not used any chemicals for years. Did you know you can make your own laundry detergent too! So cheap. And forget the dryer sheets do you know how toxic they are? You can use vinegar in the rinse cycle or I just dont use any fabric softner and guess what my laundry still smells good and soft!
