packing? already?

lately all anyone has told me about is how early their first child came and how unprepared they were. i thought babies were usually late. i'm still betting that the timbit will be late BUT...when our school secretary told me that her baby came 5 and a half weeks early (that would be tomorrow for me), i thought to myself that maybe i should put together some lists of what to pack. i'm not going to pack my stuff but at least if there was a list for me and a list for tim, the panic won't get the best of us.

so i thought of this this morning and then this afternoon when i checked my email, i had an email from babycenter.ca with suggestions for what to pack for hte hospital. wow. they often read my mind. SO...i made a list for me, tim, and snacks to pack (which i'll put on the fridge). i figure i can get the baby's list of stuff ready now since we're not using it yet. :)

hmm...i wonder if preparing this early will mean baby shulba will be extra late...

but just thinking about all this is fairly mind-blowing. this is for real. there's an almost full-sized baby in me right now. i'm going to be coming home from the hospital with a new person. woah.

any suggestions on things you wouldn't want to forget when you went into labour? especially since we're giving birth 30 minutes from home, we will want things after it's all said and done, right?

Umm...diet coke? I guess you could probably purchase that at the hospital.

I probably shouldn't tell you this, but a lady I work with (due within days of you) had her baby last week...so yes, he was definitely early. He was #2 for her.

This is obvious, but you'll definitely want a camera. And maybe an iPod or other things to entertain yourself. Maybe a good book to read.

You'll want chapstick. And get a tube of that lansinoh cream for your nipples if you're planning to breastfeed. That stuff is gold the first couple weeks. A pair of slippers and comfy clothes to go home in. A pillow to sit on for the car ride home. Extra strength advil on hand at your house.

If someone brings you fresh fruit to snack on your first night after your labor is done you will bless them. Don't expect to sleep - the nurses come in at any hour to teach you to bathe and care for your baby. Like I'm so teachable at 2 am. You will not need anything to amuse yourself once your baby is born. You're just gonna want to stare at him - because it is so crazy that this whole little person just came out of you. The day before they didn't look any different, but they were tucked upside down (I hope) inside your big big belly. Wow. I'm so excited for you two. :)

Don't panic too much. Some of us who weren't quite prepared to have our baby 5 weeks early simply ran to the hospital with a camera and toothbrush. HOWEVER, it did leave husband and brother left to shop for pads and maternity bras. So, if you ask them, be prepared :) . . . I just remember my room being full of safeway bags and Sears bags because we didn't have clothes that were small enough for her . . . thank goodness for friends and family!

Soooooo excited for you guys. Can't wait to meet the little guy!

You new moms are SOO helpful!! All I remember is that anything that you don't pack in advance, you MUST have a list of the things you want to throw in at the last minute. You definitely can't think straight when the time comes... something as simple as your toothbrush... your mind goes mush!!
