sunscreen

i'm a HUGE sunscreen girl. if it's sunny out, i don't leave the house without it...well, i try not to. not being one who often takes into account the long term consequences of things, i hate to say that it's less about protecting myself from skin cancer and more about not getting weird tan/burn lines. however, with ben being desperate to get outside all the time, i bought myself some baby sunblock and have slathered it on him on those various hot, sunny days we've had. but today, i read this article on the harmfulness of sunscreen. oh brother. now what? i'm contemplating buying some of the recommended brands on amazon...

oh darn. I've been using SPF 60 for a couple of years now. Considering I NEVER used sunscreen before babies this makes me mad too. Thanks for posting this!

i was talking with some people on thursday after there was a news report on the radio that morning about how sunscreen is mor elikely to cause skin cancer than the sun. i am not s big sunscreen person. i use it when i am away on vacation but i probably only use it 10 times a year if that. good luck finding something that you feel comfortable putting on Ben.

Funny you bring this up, because I was raised in a home where we were taught that sunscreen was not a good idea and people always thought we were crazy.

Not that you shouldn't use it sometimes because lets face it - if your in the sun all day you don't want to burn, but at the same time, something that blocks sun is bound to be full of chemicals - anything you put on your skin leeches into your body, just like food. Plus you don't intake any vitamin D if you block the sun.

My mom put us in t-shirts and hats (yes even in the water as kids) if we were going to be in the sun for a long time. Main body components covered and try to use shade when you can.

Just something to think about!

Well shoot. Just looked at my two organic sunscreens... one has Vitamin A, the other has Oxybenzone. What next?
